The University of North Texas Art in Public Places Committee seeks to purchase artworks or commission artists to create original artworks to be located in public areas at the UNT Discovery Park complex.  Discovery Park is home to Colleges with various technology and engineering departments.  The academic programs include Mechanical and Energy Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Construction Technology and Materials Science. The building is a former Texas Instruments corporate campus, with wide walkways for circulation, numerous light wells illuminated by natural exterior light, and various common areas for students and visitors to congregate. These elements are contained in a generous footprint located on a site north of UNT's main campus.

Thank you to all the artists who responded to the RFQ for the Percent for Art Project at the new UNT Student Union. We're experiencing a delay in starting our review process, but we are almost ready to start and expect to contact artists in February or March who are selected to submit a proposal. Please remember, as stated in the RFQ, we will contact only those artists who are selected to go to the next phase of the application process. UNT Student Union Q&A #3

Q: When I click "next page" or "submit" after the section for image uploads, the system kicks me out of my profile and indicates that my submission has been received, even though I have not completed entering my information.
A: We apologize this is a little confusing and we'll use all questions to improve the registry experience in the future! This page confirms that your profile has been saved. On this page, you'll see a link allowing you to "go back to the form". Clicking this will take you to a page that says "you have already submitted this form." Simply click "View your previous submission." You will see your profile in table form; simply click "Edit" at the far right. You may also see these screens when you try to login to your profile after logging out and returning later, particularly the 2nd and 3rd screens described here. Your profile is automatically saved, and you can login at any time to make updates through the deadline for submissions.

Q: I already have a profile with 20 images, which is allowed by the registry. The RFQ indicates that the committee will review the first 10 images. How do I change my image order or replace images?
A: UNT requires Drupal format for our online forms, which has many limitations! We have checked and are unable to enable you to simply reorder already uploaded images. We suggest choosing the image you wish to re-order, for example, you wish to move image #18 to image #2. Click on image #18 thumbnail. You will see the large image file. Save this to your desktop or easy location. Keep image section #18 open. Move to the image section to which you wish to move this image, for example location #2. Click "choose file" and select the image file you've just saved. This will replace the image file in location #2 with the one from location #18. Then, copy and paste your text data from the original image section to the new one.

Q: After I've uploaded my images, I find that they are not there when I do a final review.
A: Our IT professional explains: "Typically all 20 artwork images and corresponding data can be submitted at once, but depending on the user's modem capacity the system could timeout. As a result, none of the artwork images or corresponding data has been saved, and applicants would have re-input and submit the form again. As a solution, each time a artwork image and corresponding metadata has been inserted, the user may submit the form, then go back into the form and repeat this process for all the artwork uploads (I.e. artwork 1, artwork 2, artwork 3, artwork 4 etc.). That way, each artwork upload will be saved independent of the others."

UNT Student Union RFQ Q&A #2

Although the due dates for inquiries and responses has passed, we continue to receive and answer questions about the UNT Student Union RFQ. Most of these can be answered in the original Q&A post (dated 9/26/13); however we will post those Q&A that are new and provide helpful information.

Q: The RFQ requests only 10 images but there is space in the registry profile for 20 images.
A: The review committees for the UNT Student Union Percent for Art projects will use the FIRST 10 images in an artist's registry profile. You may upload 20 images, so you have them there for other or future projects, but please be aware that the reviewers for the Union projects will look at only the first 10.

Q: I have submitted my materials to your online registry; is it correct that this will automatically be used for consideration for the RFQ for the Student Union Projects?
A: Not necessarily. Although a thorough review of the registry entrants will be conducted, we must sort profiles by certain criteria, such as "sculpture", etc. To ensure your submission is reviewed for the UNT Student Union projects, please select "UNT Student Union" in the registry section titled "Project Consideration". You can select more than one option in that section but definitely choose UNT Student Union.
